The top exported product from Canada to the USA in 2016 (15.6%) was commodity group 8703 "Motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than those of heading 87.02), including station wagons and racing cars." - the value of exports of this group amounted to $ 46 billion.

Also, structure of Exports from Canada to the USA in 2016 includes the following principal commodities:

  • 13.1% ($ 38 billion) - 2709 - Petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude.
  • 3.23% ($ 9.6 billion) - 8708 - Parts and accessories of the motor vehicles of headings 87.01 to 87.05.
  • 2.62% ($ 7.77 billion) - 2711 - Petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons.
  • 2.51% ($ 7.45 billion) - 2710 - Petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, other than crude; preparations not elsewhere specified or included, containing by weight 70 % or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the preparations; waste oils.
  • 1.95% ($ 5.79 billion) - 4407 - Wood sawn or chipped lengthwise, sliced or peeled, whether or not planed, sanded or end-jointed, of a thickness exceeding 6 mm.
  • 1.79% ($ 5.32 billion) - 3004 - Medicaments (excluding goods of heading 30.02, 30.05 or 30.06) consisting of mixed or unmixed products for therapeutic or prophylactic uses, put up in measured doses (including those in the form of transdermal administration systems) or in forms or packings for retail sale.
  • 1.44% ($ 4.27 billion) - 7601 - Unwrought aluminium.
  • 1.23% ($ 3.65 billion) - 3901 - Polymers of ethylene, in primary forms.
  • 1.06% ($ 3.14 billion) - 7108 - Gold (including gold plated with platinum) unwrought or in semi-manufactured forms, or in powder form.
  • The data set presents the structure of imports or exports of goods with the details up to the fourth level of aggregation of the harmonized system for the description and coding of goods HS2012. In total, there are 1,245 commodity groups at the 4th level of the HS2012 classification. Using this set of data it is possible to obtain information about both the general structure of imports into the country (or exports from the country) and the structure of trade flows to / from a single trading partner.
